Our Story, Vision & Approach

Our Background

Founded by Passionate University Students

Tayo Development Foundation (TDF) is a non-profit, community-based organization established in 2020 by a group of young, visionary university students who shared a common vision: improving the lives of vulnerable communities in Somalia. What began as a local, youth-led initiative has matured into a trusted Somali organization delivering practical solutions.

Recognizing that many local children and young people were unable to continue their education due to extreme poverty, these students mobilized local volunteers, colleagues, and charitable community members.

Our first major milestone was establishing **Tayo Primary School** in Dhuusamareeb, Galguduud. Since then, we have expanded our support to cover hundreds of direct scholarships for university and secondary school students and supported climate-affected families in dryland areas.

How We Work

Our Operational Approach

TDF places local Somali communities at the absolute center of every intervention. We work in close synergy with traditional leaders, local volunteers, public institutions, and international donors to properly diagnose needs and deliver solutions that stand the test of time.

Rather than imposing solutions from above, we facilitate community ownership so that local schools, water facilities, and environmental protection projects are fully managed and protected by the beneficiaries.

Marginalized Priority Groups

Our Journey & Impact Milestones

2020: Foundation & First Steps

Established in Dhuusamareeb, Galguduud by passionate young university students. We organized volunteer campaigns, raised donations, and launched our flagship project: **Tayo Primary School**, providing completely free primary schooling to over 200 low-income students.

2022: Higher Education Scholarships

We officially scaled our scholarship scope. TDF sponsored the tuition fees and direct academic supplies of over 300 vulnerable students attending secondary schools and universities across Dhuusamareeb, Guriceel, and Mogadishu.

2024: Climate Adaptation Expansion

In response to severe regional dry periods, we expanded operations into climate and water resilience. We organized climate risk workshops, provided local adaptation courses, and direct emergency WASH response for pastoral households.

2026+: Modern Strategic Framework

Entering our current strategic operational framework. TDF is building deeper alignments with ministries, international NGOs, and private foundations to scale structured education, WASH installations, and climate-resilient solutions across Somalia.
